The Marr’s Field Journal
About the Work
The Marr’s Field Journal is the University of Alabama’s online, award-winning undergraduate art and literary journal. I did the following work initially as Managing Editor and then as Editor in Chief of the journal. Undergraduate students submit their creative work through the journal’s website. The journal’s staff then adjudicates and selects the strongest submissions before finally compiling the work into a curated online journal published once at the end of every academic year. The Marr’s Field Journal serves as a central publication to showcase undergraduate creative work at the University of Alabama. Students oversee every aspect including website management, submission cataloging, marketing outreach, etc.
Home Pages
The above showcases the Marr’s Field Journal home page, which includes easy access to all online editions as well as quick links to key website components. I directed the development of this website home page design. Also included is the home page of each yearly edition of the journal. This page serves as the central hub for accessing different parts of the edition including poetry, prose, and visual art, while also featuring key pieces.
Poetry
The above includes the poetry home page and an example of a poem’s individual web page. I directed the creation and layout of these pages, as well as worked with other staff members to initially select the piece and pair it with accepted art.
Prose
The above includes the prose home page and an example of an individual web page for a prose piece. I directed the creation and layout of these pages, as well as worked with other staff members to initially select the piece and pair it with accepted art.
Visual Art
The visual art home page showcases all of the photography, painting, sculpture, etc of the edition, featuring clickable tiles that lead readers to individualized web pages with artist and medium information. Besides collaborating with staff members to decide on accepted pieces, I curated the home page’s layout.
